Albanian League of Prizren

On June 10, 1878, the League of Prizren was created by a group of Albanian intellectuals representing various places and regions in Balkans in order to resist partition among neighbouring states and to assert an Albanian national consciousness by uniting Albanians into a unitary linguistic and cultural nation.
Today, one of Kosovo’s most important and maybe most visited historical sites, the Albanian League of Prizren Museum holds historical, ethnological and art collections related to this event. The museum is a complex of four buildings which has seen plenty of change in the past decades as the buildings were first relocated due to road construction in the 1960s, and destroyed by Serbian military in 1999. Now completely reconstructed, the museum is important to all Albanians across the world since here they started the political, military and cultural struggle against the Ottoman Empire in order to appeal to the Berlin Congress for an autonomous Albanian state.
