From January 19 to 29, the 20th Convention of the WFTGA – World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations was organized. As a full member of this federation, Kosovo was represented through GUIDEKS (Association of tourist guides of Kosovo) and our colleagues: Rudina Lila, Fitim Bunjaku and Enes Toska.
Every two years, the WFTGA holds an International Convention where participants attend lectures, workshops, round-tables, panel discussions and tours in various sites. At the same time and location as the biennial Convention, the WFTGA holds its General Assembly for Delegates who represent their countries.
As in other international platforms, unfortunately, the representatives of Serbia tried to damage and question Kosovo’s membership in the WFTGA. After long discussions among member states and arguments by our delegation in Italy, Serbia’s proposal did not find support and Kosovo still continues its journey as a full member of the WFTGA.
In this convention, the new members of the WFTGA executive board were elected, together with the new president Mr. Sebastian Frankenberger. Moreover, Japan also won the race to host the next convention in 2026.
WFTGA serves as the global forum for professional tourist guides and operates as a non-political organisation. Worldwide tourist guide members play a crucial role as a peace ambassador, fostering unity among cultures and people. Functioning as heritage interpreters, WFTGA advocates for a value-based approach to heritage interpretation, standing firm the commitment to a peaceful and more sustainable for humanity.
